La Fundación Bachillerato Internacional (BI), que otorga el bachillerato de validez mundial, existe desde 1968. Este sistema está presente en 141 países con 3312 colegios en el mundo y 324 en Latinoamérica. 1302 colegios son de Estados Unidos, 310 de Canadá, y 55 en Ecuador, informó el presidente Rafael Correa en su enlace sabatino.
Estos 55 colegios (de los cuales 20 son públicos) con BI se encuentran en Esmeraldas, Tena, San Gabriel, Azogues, Machala, Guayaquil y otras ciudades. El mandatario también destacó que 20 de estos colegios son públicos.
El BI exige un bachillerato unificado como el que se implantó recientemente en el país. El Presidente enfatizó que el éxito del programa no radica en que simplemente el establecimiento se inscriba, sino que los estudiantes pasen los exámenes para que obtengan ese bachillerato.
En la primera evaluación en Ecuador, solo el 16% de los estudiantes obtuvieron el BI y en la segunda pasó el 32%, cuando a nivel mundial el 71% de los estudiantes aprueba los examenes.
“Hemos avanzado pero aún falta mucho por recorrer. Es un gran desafío que tiene el país”, dijo el mandatario.
